Working alongside main contractor B & E services we completed the groundworks for Minifigure Speedway Coaster in 2024 which was one of the most technically demanding projects we have delivered within a live theme park environment. The scheme presented a number of significant challenges from the outset, including steep site topography, restricted access routes, and a complex network of existing buried services comprising high-voltage electricity, data networks, gas, water, and deep drainage infrastructure.
Extensive planning, coordination, and engineering expertise were required to safely navigate these constraints and prepare the site for construction. To facilitate access for heavy plant and specialist equipment, a series of engineered working platforms were created across the sloping terrain, enabling safe operation of piling rigs and construction activities throughout the programme.
The project involved the installation of concrete pile foundations followed by the construction of dozens of reinforced concrete pile caps and ground beams to support the new attraction infrastructure. Hundreds of metres of drainage and service ducting were installed, alongside substantial civil engineering works associated with the ride station, queue line areas, and retaining structures.
Particular care was required in environmentally sensitive areas, where screw piles were installed within designated root protection zones to minimise impact on existing trees and landscaping. Demonstrating the breadth of our in-house capabilities, the project also included the construction of a striking 4-metre-high gabion retaining wall, delivering both structural performance and a high-quality visual finish.
Delivered within a live operational resort, the project demanded commitment, adaptability, and close collaboration from all parties involved. Through determination, careful planning, and a relentless focus on programme objectives, key milestones were achieved and the project was successfully completed to meet critical opening dates.
The Minifigure Speedway Coaster remains a project we look back on with great pride, showcasing our ability to overcome complex engineering challenges and deliver high quality groundworks project within one of the UK’s leading visitor attractions.
